MEET THE ARTIST
Alice Mathew
I am a visual artist based in Ontario, Canada. Being creative is a fundamental part of who I am and art, for me, has always been an outlet, an escape and an entry point into a place of peace. I believe there is a story behind every piece of art — including those still waiting to be discovered and told. All of my work is created to evoke emotion, invite reflection and provide a sense of calm in tumultuous times. Through my art, I encourage people to uncover parallels between the natural world and the human experience, and to explore the significance of each piece through the lens of their own lives and personal histories.

For me, art is as much about intentional, planned composition as it is about letting go and allowing natural forms to emerge in the process.

Inspiration — both visual and emotional — comes in many forms. From those simple, yet cherished moments shared with loved ones to time spent exploring the quiet corners of a new city, so many of life’s experiences fuel my creativity. I’m especially drawn to the contrasting textures, shapes and tones found within nature, as well as to the enduring beauty of old-world architecture. For me, art is as much about intentional, planned composition as it is about letting go and allowing natural forms to emerge in the process. I am continually learning and evolving as an artist, experimenting with different techniques and embracing creative spontaneity.
My work is produced at my studio near Toronto where I live with my husband and our son.
